Country Walk Summary

Brickyard Farm near Boston

This walk takes you over grassy field margins on flat ground, around Brickyard Farm. The farmer does a lot to help wildlife and has won several awards. The margins provide habitat for insects and small mammals on which birds, such as Barn Owls, will prey. It is one of the few farms in the area maintaining grassland for livestock production. The ponds support water voles, which are the fastest declining species of mammal in Britain. Habitat creation and management aims to help save this species. In Spring Lapwing and Reed Bunting breed on site, while in Winter migratory ducks and geese frequent the open water. The new bird hide makes for a comfortable viewing experience in all seasons.
