Country Walk Summary

Stobbs Farm near Rochester

The Rede Valley in Northumberland National Park has for many centuries provided an important through-route to Scotland, not least for the Romans who established the Dere Street Roman road (now the A68), which passed through the temporary marching camp at Bagraw and the roman fort at High Rochester. Enjoy this walk along the banks of the River Rede - an important river for the freshwater pearl mussel - a globally threatened species that has been lost from all but seven rivers in England.
