Country Walk Summary

Hall Farm near Howden

The access links with the Trans Pennine Trail and the Local Nature reserve ‘Saltmarshe Delph’. The new bridleway offers the possibility for a number of alternative circular routes of varying lengths. The site includes linear access around Saltmarshe Park and a longer circular route that incorporates adjacent arable land. Saltmarshe Park is thought to be a successor to a medieval deer park and is being restored to parkland under Natural England’s Environmental Stewardship Scheme. The adjacent arable land is being managed for wildlife which includes the gapping up and maintenance of hedges, plots of wild bird seed mix and grass strips, providing habitat for small mammals, invertebrates and birds.
