Country Walk Summary

Elm Farm near Hamstead Marshall

This circular route allows the walker to see most of the holding here at Elm Farm. The farm is managed organically by rotating grass and clover leys with arable land. There are a number of conservation measures being employed by the tenant, Mr Goodenough, to benefit the wildlife on the holding. You will see grassy margins alongside arable fields, restoration of hedges and walk through extensively managed grassland where a pond has been built to encourage aquatic wildlife. You may also notice areas of pollen and nectar providing plants which have been sown to benefit bumblebees and areas of cereals and brassicas which will be left unharvested over the winter to feed seed eating birds.
